Group Manager Prevention & Protection

£44,458 Development/£45,791 Competent A (plus 20% FDS allowance)

Shropshire and Wrekin Fire and Rescue Authority are seeking to appoint a Group Manager with leadership, innovation and energy to help deliver a high quality, affordable and sustainable fire and rescue service to the people of Shropshire.

The Service is governed by a Fire Authority made up from members of Shropshire Council and Telford and Wrekin Council and delivers a service to over 480 thousand residents.  This population is spread over 1,346 square miles, with the busy towns of Shrewsbury and Telford at its centre. This sparsity, combined with the challenges of two growing vibrant towns creates a challenging and interesting risk profile.

This post is responsible for ensuring efficient and effective function and delivery of the Prevention and Protection Strategic Plan. The successful candidate will be conditioned to the flexible duty system providing support to the operational duty rota carrying out the role of operational monitoring and Level II & III Command.  This role requires sound knowledge and experience of fire and rescue service delivery, operational command at all levels, integrated risk management planning, business, financial and succession planning, performance and people management and partnership working. The successful candidate will be required to provide a residential base in a geographical area approved by the Chief Fire Officer. A vehicle will be provided.

Applications are invited from current substantive Group Managers and substantive competent Station Managers who can demonstrate the range of operational and managerial competencies required to operate at Group Manager level, as set out in the appropriate fire and rescue service role maps, and who can meet the personal qualities and attributes for posts at Middle Manager Level.
